The Highlands // Las Alturas

If you wish to see the valleys, climb to the mountain top.
If you desire to see the mountain top, rise into the cloud.
But if you seek to understand the cloud;
close your eyes and think feel.
Kahlil Gibran

Pero si quieres entender las nubes;
cierra los ojos y piensa siente.

Huairasinchi 2014. AR World Championship

Its all about how you perceive things. For most people the adventure race world championship started on November 9th and ended on the 18th, for others it started several months ago with intense training and logistical preps. For us and for the Proyecto Aventura team this Huairasinchi started the day we where told that the race will be honored  with the title of "World Championship" more than a year ago.
From that moment on, we started dreaming  with a route of more than 700 kilometers that will traverse through our country highlighting its qualities. A route that will tell the participants a great story. What an exciting project!... Thinking about the safety of 250 people on such a long adventure was the next step. A big responsibility!
And in between the "exciting project" and the "big responsibility" once again we set off to travel the ecuadorian backcountry by foot, bike, canoe and car. Trying to find a good balance point between terrain, distance, safety and physical effort. A route that will flow... This is a recollection of images and scenes of this adventure and are dedicated to all the people who helped to make this possible.

Overcast.../ Nublado...

In contrast to the last trips we did this season, our last mountaineering school we had 11 days with overcast skies, strong winds and poor snow conditions. The shady days were great for acclimatization and for a solid glacier school, but not so great when it came to summit attempts. Thanks amigos for flying from faraway places to learn with us. Summits will await quietly for your next visit.
For us at Nahual, the arrival of winter in the high mountains means we will hang up the crampons, ice axes and boots for a few months. Time to tune up the bike and/or sharpen tools...
