Huairasinchi 2014. AR World Championship

Todo es cuestión de perspectivas. Para muchos este campeonato mundial de carreras de aventura empezó el 9 y termino el 18 de Noviembre, para otros empezó un par de meses antes de la salida con entrenamientos y logísticas. Creo que no exagero si digo que nuestro Huairasinchi, junto con el equipo de Proyecto Aventura empezó cuando supimos que el Huaira se llevaba el honor de ser "El Mundial" hace poco mas de un año. 

En ese momento empezamos  a soñar con una ruta de 700 y pico de kilometros que recoja pedacitos del Ecuador y que cuente un buen cuento. Que hermoso proyecto!... A eso le siguió el pensar como íbamos a asegurarnos que todos los corredores puedan salir en dos pies de semejante aventura. Que enorme responsabilidad...

Y entre el "hermoso proyecto" y la "enorme resposabilidad" nos recorrimos el Ecuador de cabo a rabo, a pata, en bici, en bote y en auto. Mapeando, chaquiñaneando, re-conociendo. Pensando en seguridad, en estetica, en distancia y esfuerzo, tratando de que no se nos escapen detalles y que como decimos aqui en Palugo, que fluya! Estas son imagenes de ese año dedicadas a todo el equipo de gente que ayudo a que eso suceda.

Its all about how you perceive things. For most people the adventure race world championship started on November 9th and ended on the 18th, for others it started several months ago with intense training and logistical preps. For us and for the Proyecto Aventura team this Huairasinchi started the day we where told that the race will be honored  with the title of "World Championship" more than a year ago.

From that moment on, we started dreaming  with a route of more than 700 kilometers that will traverse through our country highlighting its qualities. A route that will tell the participants a great story. What an exciting project!... Thinking about the safety of 250 people on such a long adventure was the next step. A big responsibility!

And in between the "exciting project" and the "big responsibility" once again we set off to travel the ecuadorian backcountry by foot, bike, canoe and car. Trying to find a good balance point between terrain, distance, safety and physical effort. A route that will flow... This is a recollection of images and scenes of this adventure and are dedicated to all the people who helped to make this possible.

Buscando agua / Chasing water

Este pequeño empieza a descubrir el mundo. "Tiene suerte" pienso entre mi. Suerte de vivir en un mundo que todavia nos regala espacios donde la naturaleza se encarga de ser el unico elemento  necesario para entretener y educar. Que especial para nosotros, los adultos, poder disfrutar del mundo a travez de sus ojos, los lugares que algún momento fueron conocidos de repente se ven distintos, unicos. Los sonidos, los colores, el mar, los rios, la arena, todo es nuevo, enorme, maravilloso, todo es una aventura de descubrimientos mágicos.

This little guy starts to discover the world. "He is lucky" I think for myself. Lucky that this world still has places where nature does all the entertaining and teaching. It is very special for us, adults, to see the world trough his eyes, its an opportunity to rediscover. Everything we thought we knew all off a sudden appears different. Sounds, colors, the ocean, rivers, the sand, its all immense, wonderful. Everything is part of an adventure full of discoveries.

Entre Mareas / Between Tides

Una vez al año todos los comuneros Nahual-Palugo tratamos de dejar la finca, las montañas, el trabajo y irnos a explorar la costa. La salida siempre es epica, entre organizar mercados, ordeños, cosechas, viviendas y cuidado para todos los animales, pasamos casi una semana en periodo especial de transición. A la preparada de la finca se suma la empacada de 8 bicis con todos sus "tereques" y de estos granjeros necios a quienes siempre les cuesta dejar su "chakra". De no ser por Davicho, Amilcar, Jacinto y Genny, de aqui no salimos. 

Finalmente y en escapada, salimos rumbo a Bahia de Caraquez para hacer base y desde ahi explorar estuarios y playas por 7 dias. Canoas, San Vicente, Isla Corazon, Pajonales, San Clemente, Chirije entre algunos de los lugares que en bici, en canoa o a pata nos recibieron este año.

Once a year we organize a communal vacation, we all leave the farm, the mountains and work behind and go to the coast. Getting out is always an epic adventure between organizing the CSA deliveries, the daily milking, houses and care for the animals, the whole preparation ends up being about a week on special transition mode. Besides the farm stuff, we need to pack 8 bikes and a bunch of farmers who always have a hard time leaving home. If it wasn't for the great help offered by Davicho, Amilcar, Genny and Jacinto we are not leaving anywhere. 

Finally off we go to Bahia de Caraquez and with this small coastal city as a base camp we enjoy  seven days of exploring the surrounding estuaries and beaches. Canoas, Isla Corazon, Pajonales, San Clemente and Chirije are among the many places that either by bike, canoe or hiking we visited this year.
