Back at home and as acclimatization to the Andes, we take off with Mathias, Niki and Ayra on a three day bike-packing adventure on the
Cotopaxi National Park. We don't have a fixed destination or a particular route to follow. Starting at
Chilcabamba Lodge, just outside the boundaries of the park, we let the weather and the unlimited possibilities of single track and dirt road options decide our future as we pedal on. We t
ry hard to avoid the strong winds and the blizzard that is common this time of the year. Frequent stops are made along the way to play on the streams, eat yummy
food, chat and pick Andean blue berries. The adventure provides
plenty of time for us to catch up after my long absence, we also take enough time to discuss over the gear
being used and the pros and cons of the new home made bike-packing paraphernalia.
Our conversations are interrupted by Ayra's accurate remarks as she bumps out
from her Chariot Cougar. Bike-packing is not new to her, one month of riding
around Guatemala and all sorts of short adventures around Palugo are turning her on competent young expeditioner as she demonstrates on her first high
altitude ride. This is the story of a Cotopaxi ride with blue berry flavor... yum!
